If you’re welcoming a summer baby, congratulations! Summer is one of my favorite times of year for newborn sessions. Even though it’s warm outside, there are so many ways to create beautiful, cozy images while keeping your baby comfortable every step of the way.
One of the questions I hear most often is:
“Will my baby be too hot for photos?”
The answer is no! Whether your session takes place in my Louisville studio or in your home, your baby’s comfort is always my top priority.
Before Your Session
The biggest thing you can do to help is simply feed your baby shortly before we begin. A full tummy usually means a sleepy baby, and sleepy babies tend to settle into those snuggly wrapped poses much more easily.
Don’t stress if your baby doesn’t sleep the entire session. Some of my favorite images happen while babies are wide awake, making eye contact with the camera or stretching those tiny fingers.
Keeping Baby Comfortable
During studio sessions I keep the room warm enough for baby while also using fans and breaks so parents stay comfortable.
For outdoor newborn sessions, we schedule early in the morning before the Kentucky heat really sets in. Soft morning light also creates the dreamy look that so many families love.
What Parents Usually Worry About
Almost every family tells me they’re nervous before their session.
“What if my baby cries?”
“What if my toddler won’t cooperate?”
“What if I forgot something?”
I promise—I’ve seen it all.
I’ve photographed hundreds of babies, and every session unfolds a little differently. There’s never any pressure to rush. We take breaks whenever they’re needed.
What to Wear
Neutral colors photograph beautifully during summer.
Creams
Light beige
Soft sage
Dusty blue
Muted blush
Simple outfits keep the focus exactly where it belongs—on your growing family.
I also have a growing client closet available for moms and little ones to help make planning even easier.
Enjoy the Moment
The newborn stage disappears faster than anyone expects.
My goal isn’t just beautiful photos—it’s giving you a calm morning where someone else takes care of everything while you soak in these first moments together.
If you’re expecting this summer or fall and have been thinking about newborn photos, I’d love to chat and help you plan a session that feels relaxed and completely tailored to your family.
