One of the greatest honors as a photographer is being invited back, again and again, to tell the story of a growing family.
This studio newborn session was especially meaningful because I’ve photographed this family since Hayley was pregnant with their first baby, Miles. From pregnancy announcements, to maternity photos, to newborn sessions and family portraits, it’s been such a gift to witness each new season as it unfolds.
Now, welcoming their second baby boy, this chapter felt just as tender and special as the first.
A Calm, Baby-Led Newborn Session
Studio newborn sessions are designed to feel unhurried and peaceful. There’s no pressure to rush through poses or force moments.
This session followed a baby-led approach – pausing for feeding, cuddles, and quiet moments whenever needed. Parents are encouraged to relax, settle in, and simply enjoy holding their baby close.
Some of the most meaningful images come from those gentle in-between moments: a forehead kiss, tiny hands tucked in, a deep breath taken together.
Including Siblings in Newborn Photos
Including a toddler in a newborn session adds such a beautiful layer to the story.
Miles took on his role as big brother with curiosity, sweetness, and a little bit of playfulness — exactly as toddlers should. Sessions like these allow space for siblings to warm up naturally, participate when they’re ready, and still feel seen and included.
There’s no expectation for perfect behavior -just room for genuine connection.
