The holidays have a magic all their own, twinkling lights, cozy outfits, and the joy of having the whole family together. But with the hustle of the season, a little prep can go a long way in making your session feel relaxed and fun.
Here are my favorite tips to help you arrive confident, calm, and ready to make some photo magic.
1. Choose Your Outfits Early
Plan your family’s outfits at least two weeks in advance so you’re not scrambling the night before.
- Stick to neutral or muted tones for a timeless look, then add texture (like knits, corduroy, or velvet) for warmth.
- If you want a pop of color, think deep greens, burgundy, or gold.
- Avoid busy patterns or large logos so the focus stays on your beautiful faces.
2. Keep the Kids Comfortable
Comfy, weather-appropriate clothing is key. Minis move quickly, but it’s still Kentucky in November. layers help keep everyone happy. Bring a warm coat or blanket for in-between shots, especially for little ones.
3. Plan Around Naps & Snacks
If your kids are happiest in the morning, book an early slot. Full bellies and well-rested kiddos are the recipe for smiles. A small, non-messy snack (think crackers or mini marshmallows) can work wonders between setups.
4. Bring a Little Fun
For younger children, consider bringing a favorite small toy, a holiday ornament, or even a jingle bell to help them engage with the camera and add personality to the session.
5. Trust the Process
Mini sessions are quick by design, about 15–20 minutes, which means we’ll get right into capturing sweet, candid moments. Let go of perfection, lean into the laughter, and I promise you’ll love the results.
