Bringing a new baby home is such a big moment — not just for parents, but for big brothers and sisters too. Including siblings in your newborn session makes the photos even more meaningful, telling the story of your whole family in this new season of life.
Here’s how I make sure siblings feel included, comfortable, and excited during our time together:
1. Let Them Warm Up
We start slow. I’ll chat with them, show them my camera, and maybe even let them “help” take a picture. This builds trust and makes them feel like part of the process.
2. Keep It Fun & Short
Kids’ attention spans are short (and that’s totally okay!). I plan sibling shots early in the session so they can be their happy, energetic selves — and then go play or have a snack while we finish baby-only images.
3. Give Them a Special Job
Whether it’s holding baby’s hand, kissing their forehead, or snuggling next to them, I give big siblings something important to do. This not only helps with posing but also makes them feel proud.
4. Go With the Flow
If a toddler isn’t feeling it, that’s okay! Sometimes the sweetest moments happen when we let go of “perfect” and capture the real connection between siblings.
5. Keep Outfits Simple
Neutral colors and soft textures keep the focus on connection and emotion, not busy patterns. I’m always happy to help coordinate looks so everyone feels comfortable and cohesive.
Including siblings in your newborn session isn’t just about the photos — it’s about helping them feel seen and loved during a big family change.
💛 If you’re ready to plan your newborn session, I’d love to help you create something beautiful.
